ASK   (a.k.a The On-Ramp)

  • Good morning!
  • Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Maybe it goes something like this:
  • You wake up late
  • There's no milk for your cereal
  • You miss the bus
  • At school you keep misunderstanding things. The teacher thinks you are doing it on purpose and you get in trouble
  • Your friends are mean to you for no reason
  • You forgot to bring lunch
  • You get home to find that your pet chewed up your favorite toy
  • So maybe that's not exactly what has happened to you, but have you had days like that where it just felt like everything and everyone was against you?
  • I've had those type of days before and it's really easy to feel very sad and lonely on those days.

TELL    (a.k.a. The Freeway)

  • In today's scripture story, Jesus is speaking to those of us who are having those kind of days.
  • He's also talking to those of us who have entire lives that feel that way.
  • And, he's telling s us that God is with us.
  • Basically, this is what Jesus is saying in today's passage:
  • "Is the world against you? God is with you."
  • "Is everyone mad at you? God is with you."
  • "Do you feel all alone? God is with you."

SHARE the Good News   (a.k.a. The Destination)

  • Maybe it's enough just to know that God is with us on our worst days.
  • But, God also wants to help us move through these worst days in ways that are best for us.
  • Jesus shows us how to invite God into our daily lives so that no matter how our day is going, we know how to listen for and follow any instructions or reminders that God is offering us.
  • When we do that – when we receive God’s help – then even our bad days have hope.
  • And, if we’re not having a bad day, we can still choose to receive God’s help in the ways Jesus teaches us. When we do that, then we might better see and know how to help those who are having one of those really bad days.
  • That’s the Good News for today.
  • Let’s pray.

CLOSING Prayer

  • This is a repeat-after-me prayer.

Dear God,
Dear God,

Thank you for Jesus…

Thank you for Jesus…

…who shows us how to receive…

…who shows us how to receive…

…your help and direction…

…your help and direction…

…so that we know even on our worst days…

…so that we know even on our worst days…

…that you are with us.

…that you are with us.

Thank you and amen
