ASK    (a.k.a The On-Ramp)

  • Good morning!
  • Have you ever put something where it didn't belong?  [Look for yes/no answers, not stories]
  • For instance, have you ever come home and were so excited to be home that you left your bag, shoes, and coat all in a lump right by the door?  … [pause] … Yes? No? Maybe?
  • And then, a little bit later, let's pretend a friend called and invited you over. So you go running to get your stuff where you left it…when…wait a minute!  Your stuff is no longer there!
  • So you wander around, telling yourself, “I know I left it here, where could it possibly be?”
  • What do you think? Any guesses where your stuff could possibly be?
  • That's right! Your Mom or Dad put it away for you.
  • Just because you leave something somewhere doesn't mean that's where it was supposed to left, right?

TELL    (a.k.a. The Freeway)

  • The scripture reading that we heard today, for Easter, has a similar moment in it.
  • The disciples knew where Jesus’ body had been buried.
  • And so, on Sunday morning, they went looking for where they had left his body, to better prepare it for his final burial.
  • Except when they arrived at the place where they last left Jesus' body, it wasn’t there…
  • They were pretty confused and upset by Jesus’ missing body.
  • But it turns out that a tomb, that being buried, isn't where Jesus belonged.
  • And so, he wasn’t there.
  • Which is why the angels tell the disciples, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? Jesus is not here, but has risen.”
  • What resurrection is, and what it means, is not easily or quickly understood.  But one thing that is pretty easy to understand about resurrection is that in order to see the Resurrected Jesus, we have to look in the right places.

SHARE the Good News   (a.k.a. The Destination)

  • So one of the right places to look for Resurrected Jesus is
  • When Jesus said, “Follow me,” he was, and he still is, inviting us to learn from him how to live God's better way.
  • That’s one reason why we gather together for worship every Sunday: To keep learning about how Jesus kept paying attention to God so that he knew how to live God’s better way.
  • And, as we look to Jesus and learn what Jesus knew and taught, then a really cool thing starts to happen: What Jesus knew and taught grows and lives in us and in how we live.
  • The good news is that Jesus lives.

  • And, the more we can help others see that Jesus lives by paying attention to God and sharing God's good life, love and healing with those around us.

CLOSING Prayer

  • Let's Pray. This is a repeat-after-me prayer.

Dear God,

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of Jesus.

Thank you for the gift of Jesus.

Help us to know what he knew…

Help us to know what he knew…

…so that who he is…

…so that who he is…

…lives in us.

…lives in us.

We pray these things in your name,

We pray these things in your name,

Amen.
